How to sell items on eBay for Life

1

Select Life

When you’re listing your item, look for the option to select a charity to support. Pick “Life 2009” (our legal name) as your charity and select the percentage (10-100%) of your final selling price you’d like to donate.

2

Sell and dispatch

Easy peasy: sell and dispatch your item as normal. The buyer pays you full amount.

3

Donate

Approximately 21 days after the transaction is complete, PayPal Giving Fund will automatically receive the donation from your PayPal account and send it over to Life!

Benefits of using eBay for Charity to support Life

According to eBay, items sold using eBay for Charity tend to sell more often and at higher prices because buyers like supporting charities.

Your item stands out because eBay adds a charity ribbon icon to the search view and puts details of the charity donation on the item description.

Your item appears in searches where buyers are specifically looking for items that benefit charities.

If the item sells, your final value fees will be discounted by the same percentage you donated, up to 100%. For example, if you donate 25% to Life, you’ll get a 25% discount on your final value fees and a 100% discount if you donate 100%.

And you get to participate in Life’s uplifting and hope-filled work!

eBay for Charity’s payment processor, the PayPal Giving Fund, automatically receives donations approximately 21 days after your item sells. eBay recommends that you set your charity payment method as your PayPal account.

If your donation can’t be received automatically, then you’ll be emailed an invoice from PayPal Giving Fund, requesting payment for the donation. You can pay these invoices with credit card, PayPal, bank card, or other supported payment types.

Once your donation is successfully received, you’ll get an email indicating that your donation has been received, which is your official tax receipt as well.

The PayPal Giving Fund combines donations received from eBay sellers from the 16th of the previous month to the 15th of the current month and delivers a single donation to Life’s PayPal account.

For example, if a donation is paid on 10 October, the donation will be delivered to Life at the end of October. However, if a donation is paid on 20 October, the donation will be delivered to Life at the end of November.

If you list and sell on eBay to support a charity, eBay will discount the variable portion of the final value fees, equal to the donation percentage, up to 100%.

If you want more information about how this works, please go to the eBay for Charity Help & FAQ page.

Yes! Gift Aid is one of the easiest ways to make your donation go further while also being tax-effective for you. Using Gift Aid means that for every £1 you give, Life will receive an extra 25p from the Government – at no extra cost to you!

To use Gift Aid with your eBay for Charity donation to Life, log into PayPal Gift Aid and make your  Gift Aid declaration. When your charity item sells, provided you pay more in UK income or capital gains tax than you’re asking charities to claim back in each tax year, the PayPal Giving Fund will receive the Gift Aid from the Government and pass it on to your chosen charity.

The PayPal Giving Fund is eBay for Charity’s payment processor. And, because the PayPal Giving Fund is a non-profit organisation, it doesn’t take a fee. This means that 100% of every donation you give to Life via eBay for Charity reaches Life.
