Gift Aid allows you to increase your donation to Life by 25% at no extra cost to you!
What is Gift Aid?
Want to make a greater impact in the world through Life? If you pay tax in the UK, signing up for Gift Aid allows you to increase the value of your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you.
This means every time you donate £100, it’s worth £125 to Life.
The 25% increase is covered by the Government. In technical terms, what happens is that you (as someone who pays UK tax) make a statement that you want a charity (in this case, Life) to receive the tax paid on your donation back from the Government.
Gift Aid is a special gift that allows you to make a massive difference. Thank you!
Do I qualify for Gift Aid?
To qualify for Gift Aid, you must have paid income or capital gains tax (in the UK) for each tax year (6 April to 5 April) at least equal to the tax that all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs that you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax don’t qualify.
How do I sign up for Gift Aid?
This is nice and simple – all you need to do is make a Gift Aid declaration. This authorises Life to talk to the Government and increase your donation by 25% on your behalf. You need to make a Gift Aid declaration for each charity you want to claim Gift Aid on your donations.
There are two ways to make a Gift Aid declaration for Life. The first is the easiest: when donating online, tick the Gift Aid box on the donation form.
Another quick way to make a Gift Aid declaration is to complete our Gift Aid form online.
Alternatively, you can ring us on 01926 312272 and we’ll be happy to help you set up a declaration over the phone.
Filling out this form doesn’t commit you to anything. It just means that, if and when you donate to Life, we can claim an extra 25% back from the Government.
Can I sign up for Gift Aid on my Life Shop donations?
Yes! If you’ve donated your preloved items to our Life Shops, we can claim Gift Aid on the items when they sell. Again, you get to increase the value of your gift to Life at no extra cost to you.
To sign up for Gift Aid on your Life Shop donations, sign up using the online Gift Aid form. Completing this form will authorise Life to claim the extra 25% on your preloved item donations to Life Shops as well as any cash donations you give to Life.
Alternatively, go into one of our Life Shops and let the staff there know you’d like to fill out a Gift Aid declaration (they love that!).
What do I do if my tax status changes or I want to cancel my Gift Aid declaration?
