About this event

Experience tandem parachuting! Leap out of a plane for Life with a Tandem Skydive at Hinton Airfield, Brackley, Northamptonshire.

Probably the easiest way to experience the thrill of freefall followed by an exhilarating canopy ride.

After a short briefing on arrival you will be ready to jump from up to 13,000 feet. Training is provided on the day of your skydive and students are strapped to the front of an experienced Tandem Instructor who is there to operate the parachute and ensure you receive the best experience.

Once you exit the aircraft from up to 13,000 feet you will accelerate to around 120 mph, covering each thousand feet in approximately five seconds. At 5,000 feet the Instructor will deploy the parachute which will then be controlled by both persons until you land softly and gently some four minutes later.

FAQ

Everyone who skydives is required to have a provisional membership of British Skydiving, which entitles them to a Third Party liability insurance of £10,000,000. This paperwork will be filled in on arrival. The cost of the membership/insurance is included in the price. Personal Accident insurance cover can be arranged separately by individuals if required.

The weight limit for a Tandem skydive is 15 stone (95kg) and that weight must be in proportion to your overall height. Provided you are physically fit and healthy you can self-declare by completing British Skydiving medical form 115A, which we do on arrival at the centre.

If there is any doubt about your fitness or where existing medical conditions require the advice of a doctor, then BPA medical form 115B must be used. This form, (115B) must be stamped and signed by a doctor and brought to the centre on the day of your jump. The final decision as to a person’s suitability rests with the Tandem Instructor.

Currently there is no upper age limit for Tandem skydiving. If you are over 16, (minimum age), and under 18, you will require parent/guardian permission in order to jump. A parent or guardian aged 21 or over will need to accompany you on the day of your skydive to countersign your paperwork.

The minimum age for the AFF Level 1 course is 16 years and the maximum age for this course is 54 years.

Any persons under 18 must be accompanied on the day of their Ground-school by a parent or guardian to countersign their paperwork.

Approximately 120 miles an hour.

Yes, you can! Very rarely a 1st time skydiver will have difficulty catching their breath.

This is probably the most commonly asked question. A fear of heights can often be confused with a natural and healthy respect for the inherent dangers of high places. This respect is necessary and essential to survival! Your perception of how high up you are is very different when jumping out of a plane as to standing on the edge of a tall building as you have no immediate reference point.

No. It is the requirement of our governing body ‘British Skydiving’ that you must have at least 200 jumps and be at least a ‘C’ licence skydiver in order to carry/wear camera equipment onboard the aircraft.

For those Tandem students looking to have their skydive filmed we do offer a video/stills package at a competitive rate of £120 where an experienced cameraman will follow you out and film your skydive. You will also receive an edited video on the same day of your jump about 15 minutes after landing to take away with you.

Depending on the time of year you jump you may be issued with a jumpsuit to wear over your clothes however your choice of clothing can be just as important. We advise to dress for the time of year and opt for multiple thin layers of clothing. Avoid anything too tight or restrictive and in terms of footwear trainers are preferred.

Absolutely. Spectators are more than welcome to attend the centre and there are facilities on-site to accommodate them including a café selling hot and cold food and drink, seating facilities and toilets. Please be advised that the skydiving centre is based on an active airfield and therefore we do ask that spectators remain within the safe boundaries located near to the centre and do not venture airside close to aircraft and their hangars.

Unfortunately, in the middle of 2010 there was a change in policy because of Health and Safety requirements, Staff Training Courses in Handling Techniques, Medical requirements and on-site facilities so we had to review all of our courses and make a rule on minimum requirements to attend. As of January 2011, courses have only been available for able bodied participants.

Not at all. Goggles to fit over spectacles will be provided, and these will securely retain your spectacles in place. Goggles will also protect contact lenses and prevent them from being displaced.

We understand! Head to the Hinton Skydiving Centre website to get more information about what to expect. Get in touch and we’ll give you all the information you need to skydive for Life. When you’re ready, we will book you in, or if it’s not for you, we’ll keep you informed of all the other events coming up in 2025. There will be something for absolutely everybody to get involved in, to fundraise and support women to become mothers.
