A SAFE HOME
A BRIGHTER
FUTURE.
My mum was 17, pregnant and facing homelessness.
She didn’t know where she and her baby would sleep.
Then she found Life.
Life gave her a safe place to live, and the support, skills and confidence she needed to build a future for herself, and for me.
Today, I work for Life, supporting women facing many of the same fears and uncertainties my mum once faced.
Her story became my story
My mum was just 17, pregnant and had to leave the family home.
She wanted to continue with her pregnancy, but she was facing homelessness and didn’t know where she and her baby would sleep.
She needed somewhere safe to live. Somewhere she could prepare for motherhood and start building a future.
Then she found Life.
Life gave my mum a safe home.
But it gave her more than a roof over her head.
She received practical support, encouragement and the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence she needed for the future.
Life became a community where she could learn, grow and build towards independence, with the right support my mum went on to become a social worker and build a career helping others.
She raised me, andΒ she showed me what can happen when someone is given safety, support and the opportunity to build a future.
Today, I’m proud to work for Life and support women who are facing many of the same fears my mum once faced.
More than a roof
A safe home is where change can begin.
Across our 18 houses, Life provides safe homes for pregnant women and new mothers who might otherwise face homelessness, poverty or unsupported temporary accommodation.
But we provide more than a roof.
Every woman works with a dedicated Support Worker to create a personalised plan for her future.
Through trauma-informed, wraparound support, women can develop practical skills, confidence and resilience for independent living.
Support can include:
Parenting – Building confidence and practical skills for life as a parent.
Nutrition – Learning about healthy eating and preparing nutritious meals.
Budgeting – Developing the skills to manage money and plan for the future.
Tenancy skills – Preparing for the responsibilities of maintaining a home.
Confidence – Building self-belief and confidence for the future.
Independence – Developing the skills needed to take the next steps towards independent living.
Life was there for my mum. Today, I'm here for the next mum
A safe home didn’t just change where my mum lived.
It changed what became possible.
My mum went on to build a career as a social worker.
She raised me.
And she showed me what can happen when someone is given safety, support and the opportunity to build a future.
Today, I’m a Senior Support Worker at Life.
Now I help women who are facing many of the same fears and uncertainties my mum once faced.
I know how much a safe home can mean.
Because I’ve seen what it made possible for my mum.
Her story became my story.
And now I’m helping make sure another mother’s story can have a different future too.
